Mission

To create a dynamic laboratory for the study and design of new media and digital technologies to enhance everyday environments and everyday life.

We will explore the vision of bringing physical and virtual environments together, by designing, making, prototyping and testing new interactive artifacts, objects, surfaces and spaces.

Our initial foci will include:
(1) the integration of physical computing (sensors, actuators, RFID, LEDs, etc.) into the built environment,
(2) the study and design of digital space, such as 3D information navigation interfaces and game environments, and
(3) on a more theoretical level, the understanding of design thinking.

Organicités Lecture Series: A lecture and discussion with Bernard Cache, Objectile, Paris
Thursday, November 6, 14.00 - 16.00 (AAC 106)

Organicités Lecture Series: A lecture and discussion with Andrew Witt, Gehry Technology, Paris
Friday, November 7, 14.00 - 16.00 (AAC 106)

How does a digitally integrated design and building delivery process change the problematic of architecture? Using examples from study and practice, Andrew Witt from Gehry Technology (GT) will illustrate how the project of a digitally integrated design solves some problems, permutes others, and creates yet others in the domains of geometry, collaboration, and performance evaluation. He will propose models for how the current fragmentary practices of digital design may coalesce into new modes of practice and discuss the fluid roles of specialists and generalists within these new organizations.

Near Futures Workshop in Madeira

Enrico Costanza co-organized with Arianna Bassoli, Johanna Brewere, Tal Drori, and Valentina Nisi, the Near Futures Workshop at the HCI summer Accademy organised by Madeira Tecnopolo in conjunction with CMU Portugal and Lab:Use. The workshop covered, among other topics, the design of a service or experience to enrich tourism in the Madeira island leveraging Enrico's d-touch visual markers technology. The outcome of the workshop is posted here.

Concert in Monza

Second public concert for Audio d-touch. The Physical Sequencer (click here for videos) was used again by Giovanni Sollima (composer and cello player) in Monza (Italy) on January 19 2008. The sequencer was featured in 3 of the 14 pieces played in the concert.
